About Bernardo Tobar

Bernardo Tobar is managing partner of the firm, head of the Corporate practice and focuses mainly on M&A, cross-border business transactions and large investment projects. He also participates in diverse matters of the Energy, Infrastructure and Mining Unit for special matters, and in the Competition & Antitrust Unit. Bernardo is a frequent speaker on investment issues. Early in his career he strongly advocated for IP rights, for which he was officially praised in 1998 by the US Department of State. He was the editorial co-ordinator and co-author of “Intellectual Rights”, published in 1995 after the X International Congress on Intellectual Rights organised by WIPO with his executive support. Bernardo has a JD and Doctorate degree by the Catholic University of Ecuador (1989), a Diploma by the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (1989) and various training courses, including a CEO Management Certificate by the Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management (2004) and a certificate by Singularity University (2017) on exponential technologies and leadership. His knowledge is not only related to law issues, but to business strategy, communications and innovation. Formerly he was the CEO of the major Pipeline Company (OCP) and, therefore, his leadership in strategy and management is well-known in Ecuador and offshore.
