Carlos Rafael Pellecer
advises Solway Investment Group Ltd, and its local subsidiary Compañía Guatemalteca de Níquel, S.A. d/b/a CGN, in the development of its Fenix and Montufar nickel projects, the two largest nickel mines operating in Guatemala, which is considered the second largest nickel deposit in Latin America. Mr Pellecer also advises Compañía Procesadora de Níquel de Izabal, S.A. d/b/a PRONICO now owned by Swiss-based Berivon Holdings. PRONICO’s smelter will become Latin America’s second largest ferro-nickel processing plant (after Cerro Matoso in Colombia) once the third line becomes operational. Both projects consist of a USD1.5+ billion investment. It is currently the biggest mining project in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) and once completed it will be Guatemala’s largest FDI.
