About Bruce Caldow

Bruce Caldow is head of the Sports Department of Department and a partner. He leads the firm’s sports law practice. In this role Bruce advises the firm’s many sports clients in relation to regulatory, disciplinary and governance matters. Bruce also leads the firm's employment law practice. Bruce is a chairman for the SFA judicial panel and regularly chairs judicial and appellate panels further to the judicial protocol. He writes regularly on sport and the law in a number of publications. Bruce Caldow is a Chairman of the Scottish FA Discipline Panel and regularly chairs disciplinary hearings at first-instance and hearing appeals. Bruce has heard nine cases in the past 12 months ranging from international professional players to amateur youth football, including being asked to chair the first disciplinary proceedings arising from club licensing in Scottish football. Bruce has previously undertaken lengthy secondments assisting in-house legal counsel to the International Rugby Board. Bruce Caldow delivered training to all Commonwealth Games sports in Scotland on selection and appeals panels and avoiding errors and successful challenges to selection for participation at elite international level, in light of recent lessons learned from Olympic and Commonwealth Games disputes in other countries, and to the Commonwealth Games 2018 in the Gold Coast.
