About Matthew Mason

Matthew Mason is a senior counsel at ASW. He has over 15 years’ experience of interlocutory, trial, and appellate advocacy and litigation, before both courts and arbitration tribunals. Matthew has been in Bermuda for four years and in this time he has acted, and advocated, on some of Bermuda’s most prominent contentious insolvency matters. For example, in the matter of PDV Insurance Company Ltd, he advised the company liquidators, representing them in the Bermuda Supreme Court, in respect of the ongoing liquidation, and the promotion of a scheme of arrangement. In the matter of PB Life & Annuity Co Ltd, he acted for the Bermuda Monetary Authority in the liquidation of a long-term (re)Insurer, involving complex legal argument as to the interpretation of the Bermuda Insurance Act 1978 as it applies to the preferential treatment of “insurance debt” in (re)insurance insolvencies.
