About José María Hurtado
José María Hurtado
studied law at Universidad de Los Andes, Chile, formerly advising on immigration policy for the Ministry of the Interior, Chile, and serving as a legislative advisor. He led the team responsible for drafting and advancing the discussion of Chile’s new Migration Law (Law No 21,325). José is the author of “Derecho Migratorio Chileno” (Chilean Migration Law), the first book on this matter published in Chile (in 2015), and was formerly a university professor in this field. He was also an advisor to the Minister of Labor in matters of pension reform and head of its international office, being responsible for the preparation of reports for the International Labor Organization (ILO).
