About José Manuel

José Manuel is a lawyer with significant experience advising on Chile’s mining regulatory framework. His practice combines private-sector advisory work with senior public-sector experience, having previously served as head of legal at the National Geology and Mining Service (SERNAGEOMIN). Since 2022, he has advised mining companies, particularly large-scale operations, on regulatory compliance, permitting and authorisation processes, mining concessions and surface access matters throughout the life cycle of mining projects. He is admitted to practice in Chile (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, 2008), holds an LLM from the University of Melbourne (2016) and has been a lecturer in mining law at Universidad Católica de Chile since 2019.
