James Burnie is a partner at gunnercooke. His practice is broad, with clients including digital asset firms, token developers, crypto-asset custodians, blockchain platforms, crypto-exchanges, exchanges run using distributed leger technology, crypto-custodians, crypto-brokers, crypto-funds and DeFi projects. Experience highlights includes advising (i) the Mauritius FSC and Kazakhstan AFSA on drafting regulatory frameworks for crypto-assets, (ii) on the first successful UK-based ICO, and (iii) on the first equity issuance settled on-chain. He is co-author of the RegTech and PayTech books, whose authorship is crowd-sourced through a voting process, and co-published one of the first function-based crypto-asset taxonomies.
