Dr Terence Cassar
is a senior associate within the team, who provides strategic advice on contentious and non-contentious issues to businesses operating in the pharma, biotech and medical device industries. He focuses primarily on intellectual property-related issues, including IP litigation, prosecution and portfolio management. He is also active in patenting, including novelty searches and opinions, clearing the way and special protection certificates, and was a key expert on the Malta IP Hub and the Malta Council of Science & Technology FUSION Voucher Programme on the IP Check and Initial Patent Application. He is also active in the digital health sector, advising on health-related software, devices and technologies and on the establishment of e-health service providers and online pharmacies. Dr Cassar has also represented various clients before the European Intellectual Property Office, negotiated a high-profile IP settlement against a major MGA licensed Platform Provider and led the negotiations in relation to various major franchises. Another focus is data protection issues, and he has been active in advising on the processing of sensitive data, including of health and e-health service-providers, and has also led the GDPR compliance of various organisations. He is a frequent headline speaker on technology laws in Malta, particularly on blockchain, IP and data protection, including in fora such as the Malta Stock Exchange, FinanceMalta and the Malta Institute of Management.
