About María Teresa Diaz

María Teresa Diaz is a well-known and seasoned lawyer within the industry with over 30 years of experience, and advises major shipping companies and maritime financial entities (and other players in the maritime industry) on all aspects of Panamanian laws related to the purchase and sale of vessels, the granting and registration of ship mortgages, insolvency and reorganisation of ship-owners, and acquisitions of loan portfolios guaranteed by Panamanian ship mortgages. She was one of the drafters of the Panamanian General Merchant Marine Law, the legal framework for the Panamanian Ships Register. Currently, she is a member of the Panamanian Bar Association (director from 2005–07), the Panamanian Maritime Law Association (secretary from 1993–94) and the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) – Panama Chapter.
