About John S. Doherty

John S. Doherty is a partner and leader of the national expropriation law group at Gowling WLG’s Waterloo region office, called to the Ontario Bar in 1984. He focuses on municipal, expropriation, commercial litigation, real estate and planning matters, appearing before tribunals and courts including the Ontario Land Tribunal and Ontario Superior Court of Justice. John is regularly recognised by a leading Canadian law directory and was named 2022 lawyer of the year in municipal law. He is a long-time member and former chair of the Ontario Expropriation Association’s board and Legislative Reform Committee and also belongs to the National Municipal Law Group and other professional legal associations.
