About Rutger Kleemans

Rutger Kleemans is a partner at the Freshfields IP practice, leading the Amsterdam team and serving as co-head of the firm’s life sciences sector group. Recognised as one of Europe’s leading patent litigators, he represents clients in high-profile cases before Dutch and pan-European courts, including the UPC. Rutger serves as lead counsel in various heavy-hitting patent litigation proceedings, including for Moderna in its widely publicised patent litigation against Pfizer and BioNTech regarding COVID-19 vaccines. He has extensive experience co-ordinating multi-jurisdictional litigation for clients such as Novartis, Genentech and Alexion. Rutger is an active member of AIPPI and EPLAW.
