Poyner Spruill LLP ’s labor and employment practice group consists of seven partners, three associates, and one of counsel spread across three of the firm’s four office locations; Charlotte, Raleigh, and Rocky Mount, North Carolina. In addition to these 11 attorneys devoted strictly to employment and immigration law, Poyner Spruill boasts a separate employee benefits practice group that consists of three partners, two associates, and one of counsel, the majority of whom are based out of the firm’s Charlotte office, with the remaining two located in Raleigh. Poyner Spruill’s labor and employment attorneys spend the majority of their time working with clients in two primary areas of employment law: defense of administrative and judicial employment claims by employees, and proactive workplace management. In the latter category, the labor and employment practice group assists clients in establishing practical and useful employment policies, advising on the day-to-day implementation of policy and employment laws, and assisting in difficult situations involving disciplinary action, termination, employee counseling, FMLA and ADA leave requests, employee violence, privacy, disability and religious accommodation, internal complaints of discrimination, retaliation, harassment, and other complex issues. Our labor and employment attorneys, along with attorneys from practice groups across the firm, also have extensive experience in the following areas related to employment law: management training, drafting executive and other employment contracts, designing selection criteria and procedures for reductions in force, classifying employees and contractors, affirmative action and OFCCP audits, ERISA benefits litigation, representing clients before administrative agencies, litigation in state and federal courts, immigration, noncompetition and other restrictive covenants, trade secrets, and privacy and information security.
